Project Archive: “The Horus Project”

I was going through a few of my projects from back in the days at Media Design and came across one particular project that I had a lot of fun with designing so I thought I'd share the design process with you.
The brief was to design a CD inlet for a fictitious music group of your own choosing, I decided to base the design around a heavy metal band.
For some strange reason the name "Horus Project" just popped into my head straight out of the blue, I had no idea what it meant if any so I decided that was to be the name of this band I was going to design for. I thought that a dark grunge style design approach would really suit so my first goal was to set out a source some nice rusty metallic imagery, I mainly focused on rusted metal, bolts, screws, decay and various other surfaces that could be used in the design.

Once I had enough images to start off with I thought about the various sections of the inlet and how each section would look. For the front cover I wanted to focus more on the band's name and so I designed a collage of distorted imagery with various layers styles. I can't remember the name of the font used for the logo but I thought it worked perfectly and really suited the overall visual design.

For the back of the CD I managed to stumble across a group of guys from an existing band (don't remember the name) which I desaturated then angled slightly, I also thought adding names of each member would be cool and informative as well. The band's track list is displayed at various angles with bolts used for the bullets. The last thing was to add all the usual music CD information.

The CD itself used various design elements from both front and reverse of the CD inlet design. In the end I was really happy with the result and it did push me to try a different path and design something out of the norm. I felt that overall all the visual elements, type and imagery worked perfectly together, unfortunately the images used here are the only ones I have so apologize that you are unable to see the full sized images as a result.
